Hey NHS members,
This is the first official blog post of the 2013-2014 year. After much struggling- okay 1 facebook message to Sergio, I finally figured out how to make a post.
So on that note here are some announcements...
1. We're still missing NHS dues from: Abyan Abdisalam, Rawley Crow, Xafsa Ali, and Fiona O'Leary.
Congratulations to everyone else who has turned them in. If you see any of the people listed above, please feel free to apply peer pressure until they hand over their $20.
2. Ms. Kahn is looking for volunteers to go to the Murray Conferences to talk about Como. Conferences are this coming Tuesday and Thursday from 4-8. If you're interested talk to Ms. Kahn, it's a good way to get volunteer hours and represent our school!
3. Brielle and Selam are in charge of coordinating the Induction ceremony which is coming up on the 20th of this month. Sign up in Ms. Kahn's room for a clean-up or set-up shift. Just a reminder that the induction ceremony is a MANDATORY event so please mark your calendars now.
I think that's it. A shout out to anyone who finished reading the post. I hope I've been able to improve your day slightly.
That's all for now,
Kathryn

End of the Year Updates
Bienvenidos!
I know that record numbers of NHers will read this post because we all know that by the end of the year we are all so driven and determined to work hard, and I'm sure none of you have forgotten about these important dates coming up. But just in case, here they are:
May 24th- Senior Project Review Papers are due!
May 29th- The NHS Pinning Ceremony (Which all MUST attend)!
There's probably something else I'm forgetting but fortunately I have enough drive and determination to find it out and report it to you as soon as I can!
Also great work at the SAP Carnival last Friday! Here are some great photos:
And I think that about sums it up! This may or may not be my last blog post of the year!
:'( :'( :'(
That's what I'm guessing the three of you who are reading this look like right now.
Well this post went on a bit longer than expected.
Now I'm just dragging it out.
So Long.
Love,
Joe

Oh don't you love all the smiling faces?
In other news, there has been a change in regime! The Lee dynasty has been overthrown and has been replaced with the Phan dynasty! Here are some more photos of the (rigged) elections held a while back:
Thanks to Medora for all the pictures!
Also MAKE SURE YOU PAY YOUR DUES!

Recap of Last Week's Meeting
Greetings comrades,
The meeting last week after school went quite well, we had a pretty good turnout and almost all of you who didn't show up gave us a valid reason why! We made some posters that have started to go up on the walls around school. Here are some pictures of those posters, thanks to Medora for them.

As for this week, I'm fairly certain there isn't a meeting this Thursday because of Winterfest coronation. Speaking of which, it would be great to see a lot of you at the dance to help support Student Council, which put a lot of time into organizing the dance and is a fellow club full of students who want to see Como succeed. That is all for now I believe.
Love,
Joe

The next couple of weeks...
Hello All,
I've hardly posted on the blog at all these past few weeks, and I'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breathe for me to break my silence.
First off, the meeting tomorrow will be for SENIORS ONLY since the Juniors have some sort of assembly or something. So we'll be focusing on Senior Projects and such.
Next weeks meeting on Thursday will be for JUNIORS ONLY because the Seniors have some sort of assembly. Yes I know, this all worked out so splendidly.
Anyways, that's kind of a long period of time to go without any sort of meeting with all members, so we've suggested another after school get together. The proposed dates are next Tuesday (the 6th) or Wednesday (7th) and again they will be MANDATORY.
UNLESS YOU TELL A MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND YOU WILL BE MARKED ABSENT.
But no worries! We've actually got some fun activities planned, and I even heard some rumors about food so it will be worth your time. We'll take some of your opinions on which days you all would prefer and then we'll let you know ASAP. It will start immediately after school and run until at least 3:30, so plan accordingly.
In the mean time Seniors should have already turned in their senior project proposals and Juniors should be getting their 40 hours of volunteering done.
Love,
Joe

Welcome Back
Aloha!
Welcome back from what I hope was a splendid break! I hope you all got a lot of volunteer hours in. I have a grand opportunity for those of you who need more. The 53rd annual Langford Classic is this weekend from Thursday-Sunday and they need volunteers, especially for Saturday the 12th from 4-8 PM. This would actually be a really fun opportunity for a lot of you, some of the things you could do would include score keeping for the hockey games and basketball games and cooking. I know a lot of you have been to the Langford Classic before and understand that it's really exciting for a lot of young kids and they need your help! I can't be there to help that day, but if you are interested email me at joe.s.krivit@gmail.com or just talk to me at school and I can get you in touch with the people in charge. They're looking for about 6 people to help but if more than that sign up they can find something for you to do as well. I think that about covers that, I hope some of you are interested.
THERE IS A MEETING THIS THURSDAY 1/10 IN MS. LOWTHER'S ROOM, BE THERE OR BE MARKED ABSENT.
I probably forgot something but ya know, yolo.
Love,
Joe

Next Meeting and Winter Break
Greetings,
Thanks to everyone who helped with the card making yesterday and today after school! If you want your hours for that signed off just come find anyone on the executive board or Ms. Kahn or Ms. Lowther. For those of you who didn't show up and didn't tell Victoria why it's tight on you because that counts as missing a meeting, which you can only do three times before getting kicked out of NHS. But overall we had a pretty good turnout.
THERE IS NO MEETING THIS THURSDAY.
SENIORS, REMEMBER THAT SENIOR PROJECT PROPOSALS ARE DUE THIS FRIDAY THE 21st!
I haven't heard of any NHS related activities going on over the break but then again I've been wrong before. Break is a great time to get some volunteering done!
Now you may be wondering, "Joe, where did all the humor go?" to which I would respond, "I don't know"...
Have a great non-denominational holiday!
Love,
Joe

12/13 Meeting Recap
Yes I am posting on the blog again! I think at this point my mother is the only person who reads this entire thing...
Anyways, we had a meeting today and most of you were there so this is just a recap of what we did. We decided to make the MANDATORY volunteering activity on next Monday AND Tuesday after school in Ms. Lowther's room. So hopefully you can make one of those dates. It really shouldn't take too long so it's no biggie. Also, some of you signed up to be tour guides for the Murray kids next Tuesday, Ms. Kahn knows more about that than I do so if you still have questions she would be the person to ask. Then we met our new "buddies" (side note: I think we need a new term for this) and hopefully you exchanged contact info with them. I know, it's terrifying meeting new people and you probably just awkwardly stared at each other or avoided each other altogether. It may seem silly that you have to "babysit" someone but they could actually be really useful to you. You could ask them what they do in terms of volunteering and perhaps get some ideas on what you can do to get more hours because of that.
Anyways, make sure you show up on Monday or Tuesday or let an executive board member know that you won't BEFOREHAND.
Happy Hanukkah,
Joe
