9/29 Meeting Recap

Today we had our second meeting in the Auditorium during extended Advisory.

We have B LUNCH, so you are free to do whatever other clubs you have before lunch (Peer Mediation, Tri M, or A lunch if you were stupid and got confused like me).

We didn't do too much official business. Summer hours (10) are due next meeting. If you didn't do them this summer you can just do 10 extra during school. After that, we played 2 truths and a lie.

9/15/11 Meeting Recap

Today we had the first NHS meeting of the year in Ms. Kahn's room during advisory.

Nothing too big happened. Ms. Kahn started it off on a slightly embarrassing note by showing us that we don't know everybody's name even after a year of being in NHS.

After that, Feven talked about a new thing we will be having this year: mandatory chapter-wide volunteer events. There will be four per year, but you will only be required to attend two.

Ms. Kahn wrapped up the meeting by talking a lot about senior projects. They are mandatory for all seniors this year (Ms. Kahn is very adament about this: if you do not complete a project you will be kicked out of NHS, you will not recieve an NHS stole and Ms. Kahn will personally write letters to all of your colleges saying that you applied under false pretenses of being in NHS. She's serious about this, so don't screw it up!) We got a packet that has detailed information about what will be expected of us. In a nutshell, we have to submit a proposal by January 13th that details our plans for the senior project. We are responsible for planning, organizing, running the event and then writing a brief conclusion at the end. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Kahn.

After Ms. Kahn talked about senior projects the meeting adjourned so we could attend a fabulous and engaging "welcome back" assembly in the auditorium.

First Fundraiser!

There will be a fundraiser at the Saints game on August 20. We need 6 people to volunteer. The only problem is that 3 of those 6 need to be over 18 to serve alcohol (since beer is pretty popular at the Saints games). So if you're over 18 or you have a friend/sibling/parent/whatever that wants to help out, comment here or on the Facebook page or let me or Feven know! If you're under 18 you can still do it, but let us know soon because those will probably fill up faster!

First post!

A couple of members from the Executive Board had a quick planning meeting on August 10th. We mainly talked about what we want the year to look like, new fundraising ideas and what we'll do at the first few regular meetings of the year. We didn't really have anything groundbreaking, just regular logistical stuff that you gotta worry about so the first meeting runs smoothly.

The biggest change for next year (although most of you probably know about it already) is that we will be having an alternate schedule. It's really complicated so I won't try to explain it, but the gist of it is that there will be only one homeroom period per week that will last for something crazy-long like 90 minutes. There will be a specific block of time allotted for NHS meetings that shouldn't overlap with any of your other meetings (because lets face it, NHS is by far the most important meeting you go to).

I also invited all of the returning seniors that I have on facebook to our new facebook group. If I missed you or anyone else, please add them!

And here ends the first of many posts on the new NHS blog! I'll try to keep this blog pretty light-hearted (Meister blog 2.0) and funny and not just serious business.
