10/10/11 Serious Business

NHS is finally starting to get rolling. We have lots of volunteer opportunities coming up, the junior induction ceremony fast approaching and summer hours and dues due soon.

We'll get the bad stuff out of the way before we go on to the volunteer opportunities which are now available! Membership dues are due the week after the two day week, but get them in to Jared or Rachel as soon as possible. They are still 20$. If you have any hardship at all paying this, talk to an adviser and you will be excused. If you don't pay the due and don't talk to an adviser, you will accrue a dollar per week interest. If you still don't pay, you will be put on the obligation list. There will be real consequences this year, so just pay them and don't worry about them.

Secondly, summer hours are due this week to either Chung or Lia. Lots of people have submitted them, but there are many who haven't yet submitted any. People on the list below need to turn in at least 10 hours they did over the summer to Chung or Lia THIS WEEK or they will be asked to do an additional 10 hours during the school year for a total of 50 hours:

  • Joel
  • Neil
  • Alexander
  • Max
  • Megan
  • Leah
  • Craig
  • Michaela
  • Fathi
  • Haley
  • Allan
  • Hannah
  • Keith
  • Tyler
  • Adam
  • Nate
  • Mabel
  • Treanna
  • Michelle
  • Susan
  • Christine
If you're not on the list, congrats on doing and submitting your summer hours! Special congrats to Wah for doing the most summer hours with a grand total of 74.5 hours!

Now that the obligations are out of the way, here's some good news: volunteer opportunities are now available!

Michael proposed facepainting at the homecoming game during our last meeting. The following members volunteered to help:

  • Sophie
  • Michael
  • Chung
  • Craig
If you are on this list and you can't go or you aren't on this list and you want to go, contact Michael ASAP.

There are also volunteer opportunites available at the East Side Learning Center as tutors for elementary kids. Talk to Ms. Lowther if interested.

Mabel and Jared's senior project is the coordination of singing at nursing homes. If you would like to participate, contact one of them.

We need to do some fundraising, so start brainstorming some ideas for some creative fundraisers. It will be on the top of our policy agenda this week, so come prepared.

Don't forget about your senior projects! The December deadline will be here faster than you think, procrastinators!
