Next Meeting and Winter Break

Greetings,
Thanks to everyone who helped with the card making yesterday and today after school! If you want your hours for that signed off just come find anyone on the executive board or Ms. Kahn or Ms. Lowther. For those of you who didn't show up and didn't tell Victoria why it's tight on you because that counts as missing a meeting, which you can only do three times before getting kicked out of NHS. But overall we had a pretty good turnout.
THERE IS NO MEETING THIS THURSDAY.
SENIORS, REMEMBER THAT SENIOR PROJECT PROPOSALS ARE DUE THIS FRIDAY THE 21st!
I haven't heard of any NHS related activities going on over the break but then again I've been wrong before. Break is a great time to get some volunteering done!
Now you may be wondering, "Joe, where did all the humor go?" to which I would respond, "I don't know"...

Have a great non-denominational holiday!

Love,
Joe

12/13 Meeting Recap

Yes I am posting on the blog again! I think at this point my mother is the only person who reads this entire thing...

Anyways, we had a meeting today and most of you were there so this is just a recap of what we did. We decided to make the MANDATORY volunteering activity on next Monday AND Tuesday after school in Ms. Lowther's room. So hopefully you can make one of those dates. It really shouldn't take too long so it's no biggie. Also, some of you signed up to be tour guides for the Murray kids next Tuesday, Ms. Kahn knows more about that than I do so if you still have questions she would be the person to ask. Then we met our new "buddies" (side note: I think we need a new term for this) and hopefully you exchanged contact info with them. I know, it's terrifying meeting new people and you probably just awkwardly stared at each other or avoided each other altogether. It may seem silly that you have to "babysit" someone but they could actually be really useful to you. You could ask them what they do in terms of volunteering and perhaps get some ideas on what you can do to get more hours because of that.

Anyways, make sure you show up on Monday or Tuesday or let an executive board member know that you won't BEFOREHAND.

Happy Hanukkah,
Joe

Meeting Tomorrow

Hello NHS members,
It's that time of week again where Joe comes out with another blog post that you'll probably ignore. Well for those of you that are reading THIS FAR DOWN just a reminder that there is a meeting tomorrow during homeroom in Ms. Lowther's room starting at 12:33. This is a good time to note that we will be starting to monitor attendance of meetings much closer from now on. If you come late to the meeting or don't come at all and you haven't offered a valid excuse ahead of time it will count as a missed meeting. Reminder: if you miss 3 meetings you can be put on "probation" and will be considered for expulsion from NHS. The bottom line is, just come to the meetings on time. You have ample warning and there are plenty of announcements in various shapes and forms that "not knowing there was a meeting" is a pretty stupid excuse. This attendance policy will be talked more about in length at tomorrow's meeting, which is at what time again?
Right! 12:33 in Ms. Lowther's room (thanks for your participation those of you who answered that question out loud).
Also there is a MANDATORY (yes I said mandatory) volunteering activity coming up this week: making holiday cards for the staff. Because we want everybody to show up to it we will be voting on which days people would prefer to do it at tomorrow's meeting, your choices are : Friday (the 14th), Monday (the 17th), Tuesday (the 18th) or Wednesday (the 19th). Also, there is another opportunity for volunteering when the 8th graders from Murray come next Tuesday to tour. We will need some students to help show them around and ask questions and we figured that NHS members would be great for this. We will talk more about both of these opportunities at tomorrow's meeting.

Thanks for reading the entire blog post!

Love,
Joe

11/29 Meeting Recap

What's up NHS'ers? It's ya boy Joe again.
I just wanted to recap what we did at last weeks meeting. It was our first meeting as a whole group (I think) so Victoria introduced her Senior Board. Then we split off into our respective grades and talked about grade specific stuff. Seniors talked about senior projects, AGAIN, PROJECT PROPOSALS ARE DUE ON DECEMBER 21ST. Only a handful of seniors have handed those in, so the rest of you need to get the ball rolling. Ms. Lowther suggested a few good ideas for senior projects such as a Parent Fair (or something), I guess you should just talk to Ms. Kahn about it. Juniors, I don't really know what you talked about, but I'm sure it was far less interesting. Just make sure you're working on volunteer hours.
THERE IS NO MEETING THIS THURSDAY (12/6) DUE TO SOMETHING OR OTHER HAPPENING!!!
I think that is all for now.

Love,
Joe

Oh and also, follow me on twitter @the_joeKRIVIT. I don't say anything pertaining to NHS I just want to get that follower count up.

NHS Newcomers

New NHS Members,
Welcome to National Honor Society! I'm sure at this point you've heard enough about what NHS is and such so I'll spare you the sermon. This blog will mostly be reminders about volunteer opportunities, upcoming meetings, and recaps of events that have happened. Just be sure to check the blog as often as possible, I think I'll make a list of those who don't read the blog just to embarrass them. I think there will be a meeting this week in Ms. Lowther's room during BEAST period. Remember, it's never to early to start volunteering! And remember: Belong, Explore, Achieve, Succeed, Together...

Love,
Joe

Senior Project Shame List

The following seniors haven't submitted a plan for their senior projects:

  • Joel Alemseged
  • Alexander Edgerton
  • Max Freier
  • Megan Jacot
  • Leah John
  • Michaela Leimberer
  • Alan Ojambo
  • Keith Phelps
  • Tyler Redden
  • Adam Reece
  • Nate Rue
  • Treanna Taylor

From Ms. Kahn:
"Remember, you don't have to have it done, but you need the plan approved. This is already a month overdue. If you do not see me either with your information or for help, you will be dropped from NHS.
We'd hate it if you missed out on the pinning ceremony. I can help you find a project, no biggy, just be responsible and take care of it."

Senior Project: Polar Bear Plunge

Michael's senior project, the Polar Bear Plunge, went off without a hitch on Saturday. Congrats to Michael on a project well done! Without further ado, here are some pictures of the event from Peder Erickson, in reverse chronological order:

Congrats on a job well done!

The "WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO!?!" moment.

The jump!

A large, inflatable polar bear greets the contenders!

The only thing standing in the way of victory are two walking M&Ms.
